La Liga President Javier Tebas has accused Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez of “lying” over his claims about the now-defunct media outlet Relevo, suggesting the Real Madrid chief is trapped in a “persecution complex.” Tebas made the remarks during a joint event with Deportivo La Coruña President Manuel Igra in Santander, responding to questions about Pérez’s decision to call a club election.

“Florentino will do what he thinks is best for Real Madrid; resigning and calling an election wasn’t on his table, so we must respect that. He’s the club president, so he knows his situation best,” Tebas said.

The La Liga chief also addressed Pérez’s criticism of Relevo, which the Real Madrid president claimed was created by La Liga to attack the club. “I’ve already said this on X (formerly Twitter). Sometimes he says we gave €25 million to the outlet, sometimes €10 million. That’s a lie. They even audited our accounts,” Tebas stated.

Tebas expressed regret that a figure of Pérez’s stature would spread “rumours” and become fixated on a “persecution complex.” “It’s sad that someone like Florentino, with his business reputation and all he’s done for Real Madrid, has to lie about such things. Everyone knows I’m a Real Madrid fan, though I’m currently ‘hibernating.’ I feel sorry for the club because we can’t keep moving forward with lies,” he concluded.
