Palmeiras defender Bruno Fuchs has strongly criticized referee Rafael Klein after a controversial disallowed goal in the dying moments of Sunday’s match against Remo. The incident occurred in the 1-1 draw, part of the 15th round of the Brazilian Championship, and left the player visibly frustrated.
Fuchs thought he had scored the winner in second-half stoppage time, but the goal was overturned after the referee consulted the VAR monitor. The decision was made due to a handball by striker Flaco López in the buildup. For Fuchs, the call was incorrect.
“From what I know and understand, the rule is very clear. If Flaco had scored, it should have been disallowed. The ball probably hit his hand. But then the ball came to me, and I scored. The rule says it’s not intentional handball, so the goal should have stood,” Fuchs said as he left the pitch.
The defender also lamented the lack of communication with the referee during such a decisive moment, predicting that the controversy would dominate discussion in the coming days.
“We tried to talk to Klein, but you journalists will debate it, and the CBF will look at the rules. Every match, teams complain about the refereeing. I don’t know if it’s the teams that need to adjust or the referees. But this nonsense has to stop,” he added.
The draw kept Palmeiras at the top of the league with 34 points, but Fuchs was disappointed not to take full advantage against a Remo side that played with 10 men. “We came for three points and didn’t get them. It’s a bad result for us, but at least we didn’t lose,” he said.
The match was also marked by tension on the field, with both teams fighting hard for control. Palmeiras now faces a quick turnaround as they prepare for their next league fixture, while the debate over the disallowed goal is likely to linger.
