Shenzhen men’s basketball team secured a 95-91 road victory over Zhejiang on Sunday night, completing a 2-0 sweep in their CBA playoff quarterfinal series and clinching a spot in the semifinals.
They will now face the winner of the series between Guangzhou and Shanxi in a best-of-five semifinal round.
As the No. 3 seed facing the No. 6 seed Zhejiang, Shenzhen entered the matchup with a clear edge in overall strength. After winning the first game at home, they carried a commanding lead into this contest, needing just one more win to advance.
Zhejiang, playing on their home floor, showed significant improvement from the first game. They trailed by six at halftime and by nearly double digits heading into the final quarter, but mounted a fierce comeback in the single-foreigner period, cutting the deficit and putting pressure on Shenzhen. National team guard Cheng Shuai Peng led Zhejiang with 25 points, coming back from injury to shoulder the scoring load, while rookie Li Yuezhou added 15 points, ranking second on the team. Both of Zhejiang’s top scorers were domestic players.
Shenzhen, however, displayed superior depth and execution. Regular season MVP He Xining delivered another steady performance with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Four other Shenzhen players also reached double figures, reflecting advantages in foreign player contributions, bench depth, offensive organization, and shooting efficiency. Guard Smith recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists—a rare feat in the 40-minute CBA format. Wang Haoran chipped in 19 points, making him Shenzhen’s second-highest scorer behind He Xining. Notably, both teams relied heavily on domestic stars rather than foreign imports, a trend that delighted fans.
