Bayern Munich’s players celebrated their latest Bundesliga title win on Sunday by wearing T-shirts featuring cockatoos dressed in the club’s kit.
A 4-2 victory over Stuttgart secured their 35th German top-flight championship and a second consecutive league title under head coach Vincent Kompany.
While Bayern claimed the title on the pitch this season, last year’s maiden crown under Kompany was confirmed after results elsewhere. When Bayer Leverkusen drew with Freiburg in the previous campaign, handing Bayern the trophy, Kompany and his squad watched the match unfold on a television in a Munich restaurant.
During that gathering, the players became fond of a cockatoo statue in the restaurant. One of the Bayern players later took the statue, and a week afterward, it took center stage in the club’s title celebrations.
“I’m not saying who it was,” Kompany said at the time. “The story will come out some day.”
The famous cockatoo statue was also seen on the pitch during Sunday’s celebrations, appearing alongside players such as midfielder Leon Goretzka.
