The 2026 China Athletics Mass Qualification Series, also serving as the Guangdong Open Athletics Meet (Station 1), concluded on May 4 at the Zhaoqing Sports Center Stadium. Organized by the Guangdong Athletics Association, the event attracted 1,440 athletics enthusiasts from across the country to the historic “Lingnan Prefecture” of Zhaoqing. Participants embodied the spirit of “all-age sports, eternal youth,” delivering a thrilling showcase of speed and passion.
The competition featured an impressive age range, with the youngest competitor at just 3 years old and the oldest at 54. Events spanned from 60-meter and 100-meter sprints to 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter endurance races, striking a balance between competitiveness and inclusivity to cater to athletes of all ages and abilities.
To elevate the event’s quality and participant experience, the organizing committee invited renowned Guangdong track stars and Zhaoqing native Mo Jiadie, along with rising short-distance talents Chen Jiahao and Wu Haolei, to present medals and certificates to winners.
Earlier in the meet, Chen Jiahao clocked a personal best of 10.22 seconds to claim the 100-meter title, while Mo Jiadie recorded 13.08 seconds in her debut 100-meter hurdles race, securing her first national championship in the event.
The event provided a high-level, standardized platform for athletics enthusiasts to compete and exchange, highlighting the strong grassroots foundation of Guangdong athletics and the depth of its youth talent pipeline.
